With all the unknowns still present during the COVID-19 public health crisis, the Board and staff of Del Shakes have made the decision to postpone our production of The Tempest originally planned for last summer, until Summer 2022.
You can hear more about the decision in a video message from Producing Artistic Director David Stradley:
In a normal year, our artistic planning process for our summer production — and the financial commitments we make to more than 30 artists, designers, directors and engineers — begin in December and ramp up throughout the winter and spring. It wasn’t clear in December – and it’s not clear now – what the public health climate will be this July. Without that certainty, we are unable to move forward with planning for a large-scale summer performance.
But, be on the lookout for some exciting future announcements!
We staged three outdoor, socially-distanced performance events last year. As long as public health conditions allow, we’re going to build on those successful experiences in this transition year of 2021, and hopefully be back to our regularly scheduled programming in 2022.
Prospero claims “We are such stuff as dreams are made on.” We are committed to creating some dream-making stuff for you this year – and many years into the future.
