Come join The Taming of the Shrew director Samantha Bellomo and star Felicia Leicht for Shakespeare readings and discussion about gender roles (and other stereotypes) in the workplace.
Kate is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved female characters. She’s brash and bold — full of spirit, full of life, and full of fight. She rails against a society that would keep her quiet, gives voice to her discoveries, and learns that change from within is possible — both for herself and for the society she lives in. This is true even in today’s climate, there are unsafe and unfair practices within the workplace that need to be addressed, it is lucky that nowadays we can contact a whistleblower lawyer to help support these issues, however, in Shakespeare’s day, it certainly was not like that.
As Delaware Shakespeare Festival prepares for this summer’s production of The Taming of the Shrew, we want to hear from the Delaware business community about how Kate’s efforts to overcome barriers and expectations still echo today, within the halls of big banks, innovative start-ups, the nonprofit sector and all corners of the workplace – for women and for men.
Join us May 13th at 5:30pm for an hour-long program in the baby grand bar, located inside The Grand at 818 Market Street. Attendance is free. There will be a cash bar, but the snacks will be free.
The “Kate Speaks” Community Cornerstone Project is funded in part by a grant from the Delaware Humanities Forum and the 39 people who supported our “Kate Speaks” crowdfunding campaign.
