This year, the world celebrates Shakespeare 400, the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. Cities, states, and countries far and wide will host events honoring Shakespeare’s legacy this year, and Delaware Shakespeare Festival plans to join in the fun by presenting every single play Shakespeare ever wrote — in the course of one lunchtime, on the streets of downtown Wilmington, on Friday, April 22 (one day before the actual anniversary of his death).
Does that sound crazy? Exhausting? Fun? All the above?
In partnership with Downtown Visions and The Grand Opera House, we aim to have about 20-30 seconds of dialogue from every Shakespeare play performed in a whirlwind fashion in front of The Grand — a fun, light-hearted event that honors the dizzying diversity of Shakespeare’s writing and the vibrancy of our downtown. Volunteers (and a few professional “ringers”) from the government, arts, and business sectors will step up to the mic for their 15 seconds of Shakespeare glory.
Please join us starting at 12 noon on Friday, April 22. The event should last about an hour. Stay for five minutes – or stay for all thirty-seven plays!
