2023 Season Announcement

March 7, 2023 by David Stradley

“A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury…”

– Macbeth

“Thou wouldst have told this tale for virtue…”

– Cymbeline

In 2023, we pair Shakespeare’s horror story with Shakespeare’s fairy tale. Join us in our 21st season for a full spectrum journey of the good and the bad in the human experience. We’ll take a journey and come out together on the other side, victorious.

Macbeth
Summer Festival – Rockwood Park

July 21-August 6, 2023
Directed by AZ Espinoza

The supernatural Weird Sisters lead the Macbeths down a bloody path of ambition and lies in a violent pursuit of power. How will Scotland resist? Can the tide be turned before the country is destroyed?

Cymbeline
Community Tour – Sites throughout Delaware

October 4-22, 2023
Directed by Tai Verley

Imogen, the daughter of King Cymbeline of Britain, deals with an evil stepmother and a deadly potion, before befriending mysterious men in a woodland cave. Sound familiar, Snow White fans? Love betrayed and a Roman invasion are thrown into the mix of this beautiful, funny, and chaotic saga.

Get your ticket packages now to make sure you catch both exciting performances!

In addition to our two full productions, we also continue our tradition of offering “Bonus Programs” throughout the year.

The Soldier’s Tale (L’Histoire du Soldat)
with Delaware Symphony Orchestra
Tuesday, March 7, 2023 – 7:30pm

In Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale,” a soldier is tricked by the Devil into giving up love and passion for the pursuit of money. This wild piece of art is part concert, part play, part dance.

Lucy Negro, Redux – Poetry Readings
Lewes Public Library
Tuesday, April 18, 2023 – 5:00pm

Caroline Randall Williams’ Lucy Negro, Redux uses Shakespeare’s “Dark Lady” Sonnets as a launching pad to explore issues around Black femininity. Mariah Ghant and David Pica will read poems and sonnets, followed by a conversation. A screening of a ballet inspired by the book will be held the day before. This event continues the themes of 2022’s Beyond Shakespeare programming – placing diverse creative voices in conversation with Shakespeare’s work.
