Each spring, Delaware Shakespeare Festival’s Community Cornerstone initiative aims to engage in community programming that fosters dialogue around key themes found in Shakespeare’s plays that connect to modern life.
In advance of our 2016 summer production of The Comedy of Errors, DSF invites you to explore “Our America, Our Shakespeare / Nuestra América, Nuestro Shakespeare.”
The Comedy of Errors is a play about the confusion three newcomers experience upon their arrival in a foreign land. Delaware Shakespeare Festival will collaborate with the Latin American Community Center on a eight-week playwriting workshop in which members of the Latino immigrant community will write scenes and monologues that reflect various aspects of their experience arriving in America, inspired by key moments in The Comedy of Errors as well as by artwork in the “Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art” exhibit at Delaware Art Museum. These scenes and monologues will be read by participants at a community sharing at Delaware Art Museum on May 21, 2016.

Do you have personal stories that are reflective of a Latino immigrant experience? Are you interested in exploring those in written form? Please join us! Erlina Ortiz, resident playwright at Philadelphia’s Power Street Theatre Company, will lead a weekly writing workshop beginning in mid-March. The tentative schedule is below. No previous experience is necessary. Participants can write in either English or Spanish – or both.

Although form g-325a is now rarely used for immigration applications or petitions, understanding its previous uses can help to illuminate the types of information that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service usually requests to determine immigrant benefit eligibility.
