April 23, 2017 is William Shakespeare’s 453rd birthday. To celebrate, Delaware Shakespeare Festival would like to present every single play Shakespeare ever wrote – in the course of one lunchtime, on The Green in downtown Dover, on Thursday, April 20.
So we could use some help!
In partnership with First State Heritage Park and the Biggs Museum of American Art, we aim to have about 20-30 seconds of dialogue from every Shakespeare play performed in a whirlwind fashion on “Shakespeare Day” – a fun, light-hearted event that honors the dizzying diversity of Shakespeare’s writing and the collaborative spirit of Dover residents. We hope to find volunteers from a wide cross-section of the community – from the government, arts, education, and business sectors – to step up to the mic for their 15 seconds of Shakespeare glory. Would you join us?
You’d be assigned a brief piece of text from a Shakespeare play (don’t worry, you don’t have to memorize it!). Some of these will be read solo, some will be a piece of dialogue to be read in tandem with another awesome volunteer. Delaware Shakespeare Festival will hold a “drop-in” rehearsal at the Biggs Museum on Tuesday, April 18 (10am-4pm), when you can stop in at your leisure for 5-10 minutes to go over your dialogue and be briefed on the logistics. Then, all you need to do is show up on April 20 to take part in the fun. (Time commitment would be roughly 11:45am-1pm.)
If you live in the Dover area, we’d love to have you as part of this celebration. If you are interested, CLICK HERE to download the “Volunteer Information” sheet and email the completed form (or email the information requested on the sheet) to info@delshakes.org.
