Delaware Shakespeare seeks a Production/Tour Coordinator for its fall Community Tour of Twelfth Night, O Lo Que Quieras, a world premiere, bilingual musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night by Liz Filios and Tanaquil Márquez. Knowledge of Spanish is preferred, but not required.
The Community Tour aims to bring professional theatre to the full spectrum of humanity by performing at non-traditional locations such as homeless shelters, community centers, adult high schools, and more. Videos about past Community Tours can be see HERE and HERE.
The adaptation imagines Viola (now Violeta) and Sebastian as immigrants from Venezuela, who wash ashore on an Illyria that bears a passing resemblance to contemporary America. In addition to honoring the stories of Latinx immigrants, the production has a specific goal to encourage audience members to take action to create more just and equitable conditions for immigrants in the US.
The production/tour coordinator position is a hybrid one. There are typical stage manager duties during rehearsals. As the production nears performances, this position starts to figure out all the logistics of how to put the production into two bins and eight garment bags, etc., and then is chief performance logistics officer once the production begins touring.
Performances occur in spaces such as conferences rooms and gyms, with no theatrical lighting. This position is not involved in “calling a show.”
Rehearsals start August 30, 2022. The performance run is September 28-October 23, 2022. Rehearsals will most likely be Tues-Saturday in the 10am-6pm world. All rehearsals take place in downtown Wilmington, DE, at a location blocks away from the Wilmington train station. Performances are all over the place – starting as early as 11am, and as late as 8pm. Del Shakes aims to perform at the time of day that is best for each partner location – hence the shifting schedule.
All company members must be fully vaccinated, and agree to follow COVID protocols including masking and regular testing.
The fee is $4,725 for four weeks of rehearsals and four weeks of performances, plus some prep time. Fee is payable as an independent contractor.
Interested candidates should send a resume and email of interest to email@example.com.
